This 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 came into our Kearny Mesa shop with damage along the right rear: the quarter panel, the rear bumper cover, and the wheel. Here's what we did.
The repair
- Repaired the right side of the rear bumper cover. It was fixable, so we repaired and refinished it instead of replacing it.
- Repaired the dent and crease in two areas of the right quarter panel. The quarter panel is welded to the car's body, not bolted on, so repairing it in place made sense. We worked the metal back into shape, primed it, and refinished it. You can see that stage in the "during" photos.
- Repaired and refinished the right rear wheel. We fixed the damage to the rim and refinished it so it matches the other wheels.
- Blended the right rear door and right roof rail. Black paint is very unforgiving. Fresh paint next to older paint can show a slight difference in tone. Blending means we fade the new color out into the panels next to the repair so there's no visible line where the new paint stops.
Before, during, and after
The gallery shows the car as it arrived, during bodywork and primer, and after the repair.
